Europe averaged 96 investment deals annually for space companies over the past three years. The United States averaged 6.3 billion euros ($6.8 billion) in investments. More than 50% of venture capitalists surveyed by the European Investment Fund expressed a negative outlook on fundraising over the next 12 months.

Turion wins Space Force contract for debris-capture technology

Turion Space, an Irvine, California-based startup, has secured a $1.9 million contract. The contract aims to advance technologies for engaging uncooperative space objects. Turion launched its first satellite, Droid.001, a 32-kilogram spacecraft in June 2023.

SpaceX to launch Yahsat satellites

Yahsat announced July 1 that it chose SpaceX to launch its Al Yah 4 and Al Yah 5 satellites. Yahsat finalized a contract to Airbus Defence and Space in June to build the two satellites. The spacecraft are using the Eurostar Neo bus and will provide broadband services.

Boeing Starliner docking at the ISS was delayed for an hour because five of its 28 maneuvering thrusters had failed. The return to Earth of Boeing’s Starliner capsule is on indefinite hold pending results of new thruster tests and ongoing analysis of helium leaks that cropped up during the ship’s rendezvous with the International Space Station.

NASA’s NEOWISE Infrared Heritage Will Live On

NASA's NEOWISE mission will end on July 31 after 14 years in space. The spacecraft will soon drop too low to be usable. With no propulsion system for NEOWISE to keep itself in orbit, the spacecraft will soon drop. NASA’s NEO Surveyor (Near Earth Object Surveyor) will launch in late 2027.

Amendment 24: D.18 Euclid General Investigator Program: Mission Involvement

Amendment 24 adds new requirement to D.18 EGIP to distinguish proposed work from that associated with missions. Section 1.4 and Table D.18-1 have been updated to specify that if the proposal includes individuals associated with an active mission team, then the proposal must demonstrate that the proposed work does not overlap with any mission-related activities.

Firefly set to launch Alpha on Noise of Summer mission

The Alpha rocket is ready to launch on its fifth mission no earlier than Tuesday, July 2, at 9:03 PM PDT (4:03 UTC) after a scrub on Monday due to an issue with the ground release equipment. The mission, named Noise of Summer, is to launch eight CubeSats to a Sun Synchronous Orbit (SSO) from Space Launch Complex-2W (SLC-2W) at Vandenberg Space Force Base (VSFB) in California. The eight satellites flying on Noise of Summer come from this project’s goal to get lower-cost, student-built CubeSats to space. These include three NASA-built satellites and five university-built satellites.
