Lockheed Martin offers to acquire Terran Orbital

Lockheed Martin has proposed acquiring smallsat manufacturer Terran Orbital for more than $500 million. The company already owns a stake in and does business with Terran Orbital. Lockheed Martin is already a major customer of, and investor in, Terran Orbital. Lockheed would pay $1 per share of Terran Orbital stock it does not currently own, valuing the company at $200 million.

MDA announced it was also working with an unnamed customer looking to use the digital satellite design for an NGSO project shrouded in secrecy.

China launches first high orbit internet satellite

China launched the first of a new “high orbit” internet satellite series Thursday. A Long March 3B/G rocket lifted off from Xichang Satellite Launch Center in southwestern China. China already operates a series of ChinaSat (Zhongxing) geostationary communications satellites.

NASA monitoring increased leak in Russian ISS module

NASA says it is studying a long-running air leak on a Russian International Space Station module. The leak does not currently pose a safety risk, NASA says. The leak is in a vestibule known as PrK between the docking port and the rest of the module.

NASA has decided to discontinue the On-orbit Servicing, Assembly, and Manufacturing 1 (OSAM-1) project. Project management plans to complete an orderly shutdown. NASA leadership is reviewing how to mitigate the impact of the cancellation on NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland.

New research suggests that sunlight-blocking particles from an extreme eruption would not cool surface temperatures on Earth as severely as previously estimated. Previous studies agreed that some planet-wide cooling would occur but diverged on how much. To qualify as a super eruption, a volcano must release more than 240 cubic miles (1,000 cubic kilometers) of magma.

Flight 2 Mishap Investigation closed as SpaceX preps for another WDR

SpaceX could be ready for another Wet Dress Rehearsal (WDR) attempt as early as next week. The FAA confirmed that the mishap investigation into Starship Flight 3 has been completed and closed. The investigation details 17 separate corrective actions for SpaceX to take that involve the result of the Booster 9 and Ship 25 flight.
