Rocket Lab launches first suborbital version of Electron

Rocket Lab launches first suborbital variant of its Electron vehicle June 17. Rocket Lab declared the launch a success in a statement nearly an hour and a half after liftoff. Rocket Lab did not disclose the payload on HASTE or other details about the flight. This was the sixth Electron launch this year.

The 4.6-metric ton (10,100-pound) spacecraft, known as SATRIA, lifted off atop SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket. The Falcon 9 reached a top speed of 21,725 mph (34,963 kilometers per hour) with the final impulse. The Falcon 9’s upper stage fired its engine two times to place the SATRIA spacecraft into an elliptical “super synchronous” transfer orbit.

The inaugural launch took place on June 17 at 21:24 Eastern local time (June 18, 01:24 UTC) from Rocket Lab’s Launch Complex 2 at Virginia’s Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport within NASA’s Wallops Flight Facility.
