Space Development Agency calls on satellite builders to diversify suppliers

Space Development Agency is pushing prime contractors to line up secondary and tertiary suppliers. The agency is in discussions with all its major vendors about “diversifying the supplier base’ SDA has plans to spend about $4 billion a year on a proliferated constellation of hundreds of small satellites.

Yahsat contracts Airbus for the construction of Al Yah 4 + Al Yah 5 satellites – SatNews

Yahsat has contracted Airbus Defence and Space to build the company’s new geostationary telecommunications satellites. Airbus will design and build the AY4 and AY5 satellites based on the Eurostar Neo platform. Both spacecraft will have a design life of 15 years and are planned to be launched in 2027 and 2028 respectively.

RTX provides Blue Canyon satellites for NASA Polar climate mission – SatNews

Blue Canyon Technologies has established communication with both CubeSats for the NASA PREFIRE (Polar Radiant Energy in the Far InfraRed Experiment) mission. The PREFIRE mission will measure the amount of heat Earth emits into space from the Arctic and Antarctica. Analysis of PREFIRE’s measurements will inform climate and ice models.

Starliner’s NASA astronauts share life and activities on the ISS – SatNews

NASA astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams continue testing and evaluating the Starliner spacecraft while docked to the International Space Station. The crew was informed by CAPCOM Neal Nagata that mission managers are now targeting Starliner’s landing for no earlier than June 18. On June 10, the crew will participate in a number of public outreach events that will be carried live on NASA TV.
