Seventh + eighth O3b mPOWER satellites to start delivering connectivity services – SatNews

SES has announced that the latest pair of O3b mPOWER satellites launched in December of 2024 are now ready to offer services across the globe. SES has also expanded its strategically located satellite ground stations, and now has 12 operational O3bmPOWER gateways. Five of these are co-located and operated by Microsoft’s Azure data centers.

Impulse Space has raised $300 million in a Series C funding round. The round, led by Linse Capital, brings Impulse’s total capital raised to $525 million. The pre-emptive raise is a direct response to surging customer demand. With more than 30 signed contracts and growing interest from every sector, Impulse will use the funding to scale and execute a backlog of missions.

Mount Etna erupts – SatNews

Mount Etna erupted on June 2, 2025, sending tourists fleeing from the island of Sicily in Italy. The eruption was the first since 2014, according to the national Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology Observatory. The image shows the lava flow and huge plume of smoke and ash, as well as sulphur dioxide emitted in the plume.

SpaceX plans Wednesday launch in California of Starlink Group 11-22 smallsats – SatNews

SpaceX is targeting Wednesday, June 4 for a Falcon 9 launch of 27 Starlink smallsats to low-Earth orbit. A live webcast of this mission will begin about five minutes prior to liftoff, which you can watch on X @SpaceX. This will be the 26th flight for the first stage booster supporting this mission.

NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope’s new image of the famous Sombrero galaxy in near-infrared wavelengths shows dust from the outer ring blocking stellar light from the inner portions of the galaxy. The Sombrero galaxy is located about 30 million light-years away from Earth at the edge of the Virgo galaxy cluster, and has a mass equal to about 800 billion Suns.

They found that there is approximately a 50-50 chance of the two galaxies colliding within the next 10 billion years.
