NASA Observes First Visible-light Auroras at Mars
NASA’s Perseverance rover captured images of solar energetic particle (SEP) auroras on Mars. SEP auroras occur when super-energetic particles from the Sun hit the Martian atmosphere, causing a reaction that makes the atmosphere glow across the night sky. MAVEN had observed SEP auroras in ultraviolet light from orbit, but this phenomenon had never been observed in visible light.

NASA Studies Reveal Hidden Secrets About Interiors of Moon, Vesta
In a second study, researchers focused on Vesta, an object in the main asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter. They found that instead of having distinct layers as expected, Vesta’s internal structure may be mostly uniform. Both studies were led by Ryan Park, supervisor of the Solar System Dynamics Group at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
