NASA encouraged by SLS countdown rehearsal

NASA officials say they met most, but not all, of the objectives in a countdown rehearsal. The test was cut short because of a leak in a bleed line that takes hydrogen away from the vehicle. “It was a very successful rehearsal,” said Tom Whitmeyer, deputy associate administrator for common exploration systems development.

X-ray binary GX 3+1 investigated with AstroSat

Indian astronomers have investigated a low-mass X-ray binary known as GX 3+1. The study detected a thermonuclear burst from this source. The burst turned out to be the brightest in the 5–8 keV energy band with a count rate higher than the softest band (3–5 keV)

Wow! Signal was observed by the Big Ear radio telescope on August 15, 1977. It was a strong, continuous, narrow band radio signal lasting at least 72 seconds. Despite having just one observation, the Wow! Signal is considered the strongest candidate for an extraterrestrial signal. The authors argue that the source could be some kind of stochastic repeater.

Aerosol instrument SPEXone mounted on NASA's climate satellite

Dutch and American engineers install SPEXone on the PACE satellite. PACE will conduct measurements on oceans and aerosols to study the influence of particulates on the climate. On June 23, the last screw is tightened, which officially completes the integration. SPEXone will map out the properties of aerosols, such as size, shape, composition and absorbing/reflecting power.

They suspect the newfound object is a pulsar wind nebula, a neutron star that accelerates nearby charged particles at close to the speed of light. Two geostationary communications satellites for India’s space agency and a Malaysian company will rocket into orbit from the jungle of South America on Wednesday. The launch window opens at 5:03 p.m. EDT (2103 GMT) and extends until 6:43 p.m. French Guiana time. The launch will be the first flight of an Ariane 5 rocket this year, and the first since the launch of the James Webb Space Telescope on Dec. 25. China conducted a rare commercial launch of a Long March 3B rocket with the APStar-6C communications satellite for APT Satellite Holdings. Long March 3B lifted off from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center at 16:06 UTC on a mission of under half an hour to lift the spacecraft into an elliptical Geostationary Transfer Orbit. Confirmation of launch success was provided by APT Satellite around 40 minutes after liftoff when the satellite had been separated into its target orbit.
