Chang’e-6 lands on far side of the moon to collect unique lunar samples

China's Chang’e-6 mission lander made a successful soft landing on the far side of the moon late Saturday. The lander targeted a southern portion of Apollo crater within the South Pole-Aitken (SPA) Basin on the lunar far side. Teams will now begin initial checks of the lander’s systems and soon begin collecting samples.

Ground computer halted the countdown 3 minutes and 50 seconds before the scheduled 12:25 p.m. Eastern launch. NASA says there will not be a June 2 launch attempt to give teams more time to study the problem. An update on the next launch attempt is expected on June 2.
