FCC proposes new bureau for space activities

FCC Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel announces plans to reorganize agency. She wants to create a bureau devoted to the commission's increasing work with space systems. NRO to sign deals with commercial providers of hyperspectral imaging

Hyperspectral sensors provide data across a multitude of spectral bands. The technology has numerous commercial applications and the NRO has for years expressed interest.

SpaceX launched the second in a series of three Falcon 9 rocket missions early Thursday for the European satellite operator Eutelsat. The Falcon 9 rocket ignited its nine Merlin main engines and climbed away from pad 40 at Cape Canaveral at 1:22 a.m. EDT (0522 GMT) The Falcon 9 delivered Eutelsat’s Hotbird 13G communications satellite into an elongated transfer orbit stretching as far as 35,700 miles (57,500 kilometers) from Earth.

NASA plans to roll the Space Launch System rocket back to its launch pad early Friday. The rocket will be used to send the Artemis 1 test flight around the moon. A hydrogen fuel leak kept the mission from launching in early September. NASA rolled the SLS moon rocket back inside the VAB on Sept. 27.

OneWeb has resumed deployment of its satellite constellation with the launch of 36 satellites aboard India’s GSLV Mk.III rocket. The mission – which marks the first commercial launch for the GSLV – lifted off from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre on Sunday, Oct. 23.

SpaceX has conducted its 51st launch of 2022 with Eutelsat’s Hotbird-13G telecommunication satellite. The Falcon 9 launched from Space Launch Complex 40 (SLC-40) at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station (CCSFS) SpaceX stated that, in order to complete pre-flight checkouts, liftoff was delayed to the end of a 116-minute long window.
